The Nations Triathlon

The Nations Triathlon... later changed to duathlon due to healthy issues regarding swimming the Potomac River!!!

We (triathletes in DC) were so exited in having the first triathlon in the Capital that we didn't mind paying a little high price as entree fee. After all, we were doing a triathlon in DC, there was no traveling, no hotel, dinner at home, etc. But we were, at least I was, a little disappointed when it was changed to duathlon, and instead of the swimming we ran 3Km. Even though the swimming isn't my best leg of the triathlon, I wasn't happy that it was out, the idea is to overcome/to do the 3 sports and do your best. You will have plenty of time to read my "battle against swimming" next posts for sure.

The Nation's Triathlon took place in downtown DC, close to all monuments, and the Rock Creek Parkway. The scenic view of the run and bike route were amazing and the race in general was good. We had the opportunity to give feedback to the race directors to improve TNT for next year.

I was happy that finally some of my party friends will finally be able to see me finishing a race/triatlhon. But waking up at 8:30am on a Saturday morning was a tough barrier to break, but they made it, and it made me very happy seeing them during the bike leg, when running and at the end.

Of course, they were still sleeping even though they were standing there or at brunch.

Thank to all, just seeing you there was great for me, and I really appreciate it.

By the way, here are the results.
I was 128/313 athletes that finished the race, and 29/69 in my age group.
3Km run - no swim: 14:19, rank 141
T1: 1:55 (getting better, by the way, I had the socks on already)
32Km Bike: 1:02:08, rank 173
T2: 1:07
10Km Run: 48:03, rank 94
Total: 2:07:31

Introduction

The first post is just to introduce myself. I'm Venezuelan, living in Washington DC. I had the idea of creating a blog since I registered for my first Ironman (Nov05), yes!!! Almost a year ago, but well things happened (procrastinator). During this year I ended up in the middle of a big commitment (training for an Ironman) and my social life. Changes needed to be taken, and I did. Hope the prize paid will be worthy.
During training time I have met great people, some of them have become good friends. I set my goal of finishing the Ironman, after suffering 2 injuries, I can't go for more... now. I wasn't able to train until July. Most people train for more than 6 months, but here I am, training and with a great attitude towards finishing one of my biggest goals in life. I have physically and mentally prepared for it, and I have being supported by great friends that always offer a BEER before each race for carbo-loading and after for recovering.
Thank to all, and I hope you will enjoy my journal.

Be READY to deal with IRONGUILLE after all this finish, I will need to party a LOT.
